5 Good Things About the Week
From Justin Timberlake’s new album to Murphy, the most adorable puppy
Taking a look around the world this week, looking for the good. Five things to put a smile on your face:
Music is good for the soul and I’m excited about Justin Timberlake’s new album “Everything I Thought it Was.” He always makes me want to dance and is one of my favorite artists. It’s been a minute since he’s released new music and I’m loving the singles “Drown” and “Selfish.” I also admire his team’s marketing of the album, which I wrote about on my professional blog.
Long ago, my grandparents lost both their home and a store my grandfather owned in separate fires. I don’t know why such a tragedy would happen twice to one family but the silver lining is that they survived and thrived despite these horrific events. Similarly, the New York Times reported this week that the small mountain town of Middletown California, population 700, an arts center has stepped up to help the region recover from the wildfires and build resilience. Another silver lining.
Activist Shirley Chisholm is being portrayed by Regina King in Netflix’s Shirley. I love this because Regina, no stranger to tragedy and resilience, is helping us to learn about another strong woman. Regina is just opening up now about her son’s suicide, a tragedy I cannot imagine facing.
Personally, my crocuses are blooming and that’s always good news. I live in New England and although our winter was mild this year, I always welcome Spring with open arms. The sense of renewal, hope, and resilience, as we literally watch rebirth happening in front of our eyes, is so inspiring. It’s the small things.
How adorable is it that a 22-year-old gorilla uses the same pregnancy test as humans? Not to mention that this endangered/critically-endangered species is carrying on and staying strong. Isn’t she cute, by the way? Oh, and speaking of cute, we got a new puppy this week. His name is Murphy and I just can’t with how adorable he is.
Carry on, stay strong - you got this.
